Preparing for Me-Made-May

May has not even started and I already panicked the last couple of days. All of a sudden we have summery degrees here in Germany and all of my plans of wearing my me-made items in layers have gone to waste. Even though, I have been sewing for a really long time and have many me-mades, my goal of wearing 2 me-made items every day is really pushing me. Luckily I'm having a pretty long weekend by taking today off and having a holiday tomorrow. In the end, I decided to finish some of my UFO's since they take in general less time than starting from scratch does. So I finished a T-shirt (that does not fit well), a Sorbetto top, replaced the broken zipper in one of my me-made dresses, and am currently working on a trenchcoat style jacket that is only missing the lining.

So this is what my closet looks like after I hung all my me-mades together. Here's a list of what I will be working with:

  • 7 Blazer
  • 14 Tops
  • 3 Waistcoats
  • 12 T-shirts
  • 6 blouses
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 10 dresses
  • 9 skirts
Not too bad for Me-Made-May, let's see how many of those pieces will actually get worn during May :)

Are you taking part in Me-Made-May? How are you preparing for it?

Thrifty finds and burda style May 2012

So I went thrifting with a friend on Saturday, the results of which you can see on the picture above. Fortunately I cleaned out a lot of stuff I don't need anymore after my most recent move and brought it to the thrift store which kind of justified getting "new" stuff. I'm really excited about the things I found, the travelling bag is in really good condition and big enough for a weekend trip and it cost only 2.50 €. How fitting that my yearly family reunion with a stay at a hotel is next weekend. The book, the German version of "In cold blood" by Truman Capote, looks brand new and was only 60 cents. The seventies style fabric is almost 3 m and was a steal at 1.20 €. I'm thinking about making a sixties style a-line jacket from it (like jacket 112 from October 2010 issue of Burdastyle)...or maybe a skirt? What would you make from this fabric?

And also the latest issue of Burdastyle arrived and features some nice patterns that I can see myself making and wearing.

Here are my favourites:

Me Made May... count me in!

After following all the me-made and self-stitchted challenges that Zoe of So, Zo has posed over the last years, I finally took the plunge and will be participating in the next one starting in May. I'm really excited about this because I have been seriously reconsidering my consumption lately and am trying to buy less...much less. I think the challenge will be a good opportunity to see which me-made clothes actually get worn a lot and which ones are missing in my wardrobe. Since I have already been sewing for a long time, I decided to wear 2 me-made items during each day in May. In addition, I will sleep and work out in at least 1 me-made item.

How about you? Are you taking part in this challenge?
