Last day of wardrobe refashion

I can never walk by a piece of jersey in the remnant bin and this time it turned into this top from BWOF July 2008, total costs 3,50 €! I love working with jersey, it's so easy and quick once you get the hang on it.

Today is my last day of my 2-month pledge over at wardrobe refashion. The time went by really quickly and I didn't not crack down and bought any clothing. Yeah for me, however I could not keep my promise to buy no new fabric and only sew from my existing stash. Well, another goal to reach for my next time around. I won't sign up for the next round because I won't have any time posting for the next 3 weeks due to exam and after that I cannot promise to keep my hands from the gorgeous French fashion once I move there. Nevertheless, I would like to do this again as it was lots of fun, a good experience and wardrobe refashion certainly has a great sense of community.

Have a great day and keep your fingers crossed for me ;-)

One finished, one half-way done, one more to go

Picture thanks to Lucky Magazine

Finally, you get to see a picture of the jacket I announced some time ago. It took me forever to sew due to limited time and like you can probably tell, I'm still not done with the hand stitching. I'm not 100% satisfied with how it turned out and don't really have the patience for finishing it right now. This creation was inspired by a Diane von Furstenberg jacket, which you can see on the first picture and the pattern was made by me with all the ups and downs. I had to correct some measurement mistakes after I cut out the fabric, which was not that much fun.

While I was still working on the jacket I finished this skirt. The fabric is again from Ikea and the skirt pattern is from BWOF March 2008. I really like how it turned out and it was easy to sew.

My next sewing project is already cut out. It will be this top from the BWOF July 2008 issue from the white jersey remnant I bought on my last fabric shopping trip. This should be a quick and easy project that I should just be able to finish before my exams start next week.

Textile-based energy sources

Picture thanks to Infineon

So today I had to hand in my report on smart textiles, in particular on textile-based energy sources. It's actually quite an interesting topic with many possibilities for new innovations. Did you know that electrical energy can be generated from body heat or motion? Neither did I that's why I'm sharing some of my sources here in case you are interested.

So much to do, so little time...

The Persistence of Time by Dali

First of all, sorry for being such a bad blogger lately. I will try to do better soon.

Currently, I'm all wrapped up in college work. The semester is nearing its end which means that I have to finish an important project, hold a presentation and prepare for exams in the next couple of weeks. Exams will start at the end of June until the middle of July. During this time you will probably not get to see much of me. However, after this I have some time until I start a semester abroad at the ENSAIT in Roubaix, France. Just one hour north of Paris! I'm really looking forward to my little "French adventure" but this also requires a lot of planning and organization beforehand.

Right now, I'm almost finished with a new jacket which I will post here as soon as it's done.

So hang in, there is more to come!
