Sunday Bookmark

Wow, I can't believe that another week has already gone by so quickly. Today, I finally found the time to copy a Patrones pattern for a dress and start cutting the fabric. However, I will probably not find the time to start sewing until next weekend.

Another craft project that has been on my mind for quite some time is a jewelry organizer. If you are like me than you have all your jewelry in a box and never find anything because it is all tangled up. This tutorial from Modcloth is my favorite one, I would just use a pinboard instead of foam. I already have 2 vintage frames lined up, now I just need to buy pinboards and fabric and I'm good to go.

Have you been creative and productive this weekend?

Happy Sunday!

Sunday Bookmark

So most of the moving is done, everything is moved out of the old appartment into the new one. Only lots of boxes to unpack and rooms to decorate and tidy up.

Today's bookmark is therefore something that prettifies every home: button magnets. Such an easy but at the same time ingenious idea from Big Box Detox to use single buttons that I definitely have to try some day soon.

Have fun making your home even prettier!

Still alive...still sewing...

Dear readers,

I know it's been a while since I posted regularly but I will move into a new apartment next week and all my sewing stuff, amongst other things, is already packed. It's actually the 3rd move in 1.5 years since I have been having some bad luck with my choice of apartments... extremely cold old building...choleric land lady...you name it. So keep your fingers crossed for me that this will be my last move for a while.

And please hang in there until my move is done as I promise to post more regularly and with  new content once it's done. So what are my plans for this blog? I intend to post more tutorials on pattern modifications as well as actually show off my sewing projects (I still owe you photos and a tutorial of my blouse that made it into the Burdastyle Sewing Handbook). In addition, I will keep you up-to-date on fashion trends and plan on participating in Me-Made-May this year and create more outfit posts. And of course, you will see more home DIY as I turn my new apartment into my new home.

Fabric trends spring/summer 2013

Also for the upcoming season (spring/summer 2013) at work we visited the Munich Fabric Start that I already told you about here. It's always interesting to see the trends of the new season upfront even though most fabric suppliers are not finished at that time with their collections and the actual trends usually emerge during the season. Nevertheless, I want to give you my impression of the coming and enduring trends.

Just like last time there was an abundance of flower and animal prints. Seems like those will keep on following us for a long time...time to sew something from these prints?

Other prints that are not completely new but seem to endure some more seasons are Hermes inspired prints with chains and reins, photo prints with faces and letters, prints with butterfly wings or small butterflies, and colourful inkjet prints.

Although, feather prints have already started emerging during last winter season, they are still my favorite and I'm itching to sew something from one of those prints.

And of course prints conjuring up images of vacation and summer time could not be missing...ranging from safari to jungle images.

The only prints that felt very new to me were scarf prints, unfortunately they seem to be that new that I could not find a picture of one of those prints. However, I detected them at the spring/summer 2012 collection of D&G who dedicated the whole collection to these prints. Nonetheless, it seems quite difficult to create slim fitting garments around these square prints without destroying the beautiful prints.

What are your thoughts on those trends? Which prints will you implement into your spring/summer wardrobe?

Have a nice day and happy sewing!

Sunday Bookmark

I know it's been a really long time since I posted one of these and I don't even remember at which number I stopped, so I guess I will leave them unnumbered from now on.

Today's bookmark from "In Color Order" is for an easy tutorial for lined drawstrings bags which can be used in various ways. And just in time for christmas preparations since they can also be used as reusable gift wrapping.

Picture thanks to In Color Order

Happy Sunday with lots of sewing fun!

Preview Burdastyle December issue - looking good

Yes, I'm still alive... I know, I have very much neglected this little blog of mine. Life got in the way and it took me some time to get settled in my new job and the new town I moved to. But I'm loving my new job even though it can be stressful at times and it is leaving me with lots of free fabric at the end of each season (mostly small pieces of sample fabrics). And I have refound my love for sewing, for some time I have only done quick and easy projects that left me kind of unsatisfied but I have just finished a blazer that I will show you as soon as I get some decent photos of it.

But now to the promising preview of the December issue of Burdastyle, you can find the photos of all garments here and the technical drawings here. Lately I have not been too enthusiastic about Burdastyle's issues but in this preview I have already found several pieces I love.
